Christopher Ford, PT, MPT
Chris Ford, PT, MPT founded ABC on April 1st, 2001. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 1995 with a Masters of Physical Therapy. His speciality is back pain, neck pain and migraines. He has developed an extremely accurate alignment technique for the spine called the "Leveling Technique." He has been in several articles in "Advance for Physical Therapy and Rehab Medicine," featuring his unique plan of care. Chris' goal is to teach the "Leveling Technique" and his philosophy of care around the globe. He is a member of APTA, PTWA, Tacoma Executive Association, ToastMasters, Chamber of Commerce and a former member of Tacoma Rotary 8.
Chris is proud of the fact that our clinic gives relief to patients who haven't had results anywhere else. The ability to positively change people's lives for the better is the biggest motivator. Chris lives in University Place with his wife Carole. He has two daughters, Jordan and Tara.
Annalise Shields, PT, DPT, CSCS
Annalise Shields, PT, DPT, CSCS, is a Northern California native who graduated from the University of Portland in May of 2010 with a B.S. in Life Sciences and a Minor in Health and Physical Education. After two years of working as a physical therapy aid in a Portland-based outpatient physical therapy clinic, she attended Emory University’s Division of Physical Therapy Doctorate Program in Atlanta, GA and graduated in May of 2015 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Her interests while in school were Dry Needling, Spinal Orthopedics, and Strength and Conditioning. She earned her Strength and Conditioning certification in May of 2015. While she was a PT student in Atlanta, she enjoyed working as a caregiver for a man with spastic tetraplegic cerebral palsy and enjoyed watching him pursue his love of participating in endurance races as a tandem team with his older brother. She is excited about beginning her physical therapy career at ABC as well as learning and mastering “The Leveling Technique” to help patients with chronic pain achieve relief and improve their quality of life.
Annalise lives in Tacoma with her dog, Daisy, and enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest. She also likes to play volleyball, cycle, and travel in her spare time.
David Gerrans, PT, DPT
David Gerrans, DPT, is a Maine native, growing up on the eastern seaboard. David earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan in 2013. He began his appreciation of the Pacific Northwest, and of the “Leveling Technique” during an internship here at ABC in 2012.
David is extremely excited to have rejoined the Alternative Back Care team in 2016 after a few years of practicing physical therapy in the hospital and outpatient orthopedic settings in the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. He has employed the “Leveling Technique” throughout this practice, which has been a key tool in bringing his patients relief from pain and restoration of function.
Recreationally, David enjoys international travel, playing music on piano and violin, camping, hiking, sailing, anything that involves bodies of water and/or mountains. His two Australian Shephard dogs are fantastic companions for his adventures. David is also a Health and Wellness nutritional coach, and in his spare time enjoys helping people reach their lifestyle and health goals.
Jesse Pooler, PT, MPT
Jesse Pooler, MPT, is a Northern Maine native who graduated from the University of New England in May of 2002 with a Master Degree in Physical Therapy. Five days later, he started work after driving 3,300 miles to Washington State and hasn’t looked back since. He has worked close to fourteen years as a traveling Physical Therapist for outpatient clinics, hospitals and nursing homes in the areas between Olympia and Seattle. He decided to take on a full-time job at ABC Physical Therapy where he is really enjoying improving patient’s lives with the leveling technique. His biggest interests include gait analysis, rotator cuff dysfunction, body mechanics and postural correction.
At home, Jesse has been married to his wife Keri, a massage therapist, for six years. He has two children, a five-year-old daughter Calleigh and a two-year-old son Shane. Any time out of the clinic is spent playing at the park, walking the north end neighborhoods looking for Free Little Libraries or volunteering at his children’s pre-school.
Jenna Allen, PTA
Jenna Allen, PTA, graduated from the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Green River Community College with an Associates in Applied Science. She began at ABC in June of 2011. Since then, she has enjoyed developing her manual therapy skills, taken continuing education classes for Kinesiotaping 1 and 2, and has become a Certified Weight Trainer. Her favorite part of the job is to be able to take away pain, empower her patients to take charge of their health, and teach them the tools needed to maintain it. She also enjoys the relationships with her co-workers and working as a team to grow as a therapist and give patients the best care possible.
Jenna grew up in the Tri-Cities and has lived in Tacoma since 1999. In her free time she enjoys listening to music, being outdoors, and exercising.
Karl Albert, PTA
Karl is a Tacoma native, born and raised, who loves his hometown. He has attended the University of Washington, College of Forest Resources and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1981 and is a recent graduate of Green River Community College: Associates in Applied Science in 2014.
Helping his patients become pain free and able to return to their normal activities is what brings him joy and purpose to his job as a PTA here at ABC Physical Therapy. He is a firm believer in the full circle approach to resolving back pain that we utilize here at ABC Physical Therapy. Once he aligns a patient, seeing how dramatically their back pain is relieved and posture improved keeps him enthralled in the work that he does. In addition to our specialities, Karl has completed continuing education on comprehensive knee rehabilitation.
Byron Becker, PTA, CSCS
Byron attended the University of Washington and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He decided to go back to school to work in the physical therapy field and graduated from PIMA Medical Institute in North Seattle in June, 2016.
Byron’s last clinical experience for school was here at Alternative Back Care, and he found our approach to treating backs to be very unique and exciting. He enjoyed working here so much that he decided to come down to Tacoma, and join us! Byron recently received a new designation as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and is looking forward to incorporating all that he has learned to help improve the lives and well being of his patients.
Recreationally, Byron loves to backpack, paddleboard, and play basketball. He is a die hard Seahawks fan, and is always excited to talk about last week's game!
John Casebere, LMP
Certified Zen Bodytherapy® Practitioner, Certified Zen Triggerpoint® Practitioner, Advanced Zentherapy Practitioner®, Advanced B.E.S.T.® Practitioner
John began his massage career in Fircrest, Washington as a partner in Evergreen Holistic Practitioners. He graduated from Alexandar School of Natural Therapeutics and has further training with The Upledger Institute in CranioSacral® Therapy, and The St. Johns Institute for Neuromuscular Therapy. John is also certified as an advanced B.E.S.T. practitioner by Dr. Ted Morter, Jr. in Bio Energenic Syncronization Technique and the International Zentherapy Institute, Inc., in deep body work and has been training in deep body work with William “Dub” Leigh and Bill Thompson since 1997. John is certified in both Zen Bodytherapy®, Zen Triggerpoint Anatomy and Advanced Zen Bodytherapy®. John teaches Anatomy and Kinesiology, Clinical Treatment, Documentation and Practice Management at Alexandar School of Natural Therapeutics, Inc.
Claire Yuckert, LMP
Claire is a Tacoma native and graduate of Evergreen State College with her BFA in Film and Literature. She worked in the non-profit arts community for over 15 years at the Museum of Glass, Tacoma Opera, and Arizona Opera.
Following her love of service and dedication to people, she made the career change from non-profit work to the health industry by attending Arizona School of Massage Therapy this past year. Ms. Yuckert graduated with a 4.0 GPA, perfect attendance, and worked with five patients in clinic every weekend, consistently for 21 weeks. Some of her favorite modalities include Injury Rehabilitation, Russian Sports Massage, Structural Integration and Eastern Modalities of Shiatsu and Acupressure.
Claire migrated north after graduation with her husband and started working at ABC in June 2016. She is excited to help facilitate healing for patients who are in pain. In her free time, Ms. Yuckert works as a personal chef for many clients, spends time outdoors with her husband and daughter camping in the Half Pint Caravan, and continues to volunteer her time to the arts community in the South Sound.
